Each year the Eerie Horror Film Festival attracts thousands of fans, filmmakers, screenwriters and game developers to the city of Erie, Pennsylvania, for a five day celebration of independent cinema, featuring special celebrity guests, screenings and workshops.

New from NECA

The Cult Classics Hall of Fame continues with a new Captain Spaulding action figure.  The good ol' Captain stands about 7" tall and comes with interchangeable hands, his itty bitty hat, and a backdrop from his "roadside attraction"!

Also recently released from the Cult Classics Series 7 is the Spider-Walk Regan action figure from The Exorcist.  I think they did a great job capturing the scene when Regan is coming down the stairs all twisted and contorted.

My favorite of these new releases has to be the Michael Myers action figure.  He is wearing a removeable sheet and Bob's glasses.  Poor PJ Soles!  Speaking of PJ ... and off topic again.  If you have never seen "Rock N Roll High School".  Do It NOW!

Friday the 13th: The Series

I absolutely loved this show during its initial run from 1987 - 1990.  Produced by Frank Mancuso, Jr. (Also producer on the Friday the 13th movies) and starring the lovely Robey (winner of the "Biggest Hair on Tv" award 1987).

“Lewis Vendredi made a deal with the devil to sell cursed antiques. But he broke the pact, and it cost him his soul. Now, his niece Micki, and her cousin Ryan have inherited the store... and with it, the curse. Now they must get everything back and the real terror begins.”

A classic in its own right.  This show can go toe to toe with some of the crap on tv today.  Pardon some of the special effects.  They did get better as the series grew.

On a side note....
Robey had a small musical career as well.  She fronted the group Louise and the Creeps during the early 80s.  When they broke up in 1984 Robey landed a record deal and did a cover of Tim Rice's "One Night in Bangkok".  You may remember this little ditty...

Going MAD is just the beginning of the terror!

The basic plot here is a bunch of residents in a suburban high-rise apartment building are being infected by a strain of parasites that turn them into mindless, sex-crazed fiends out to infect others by the slightest sexual contact.

This was also known in the US as "They Came From Within".  This was David Cronenberg's first feature film in 1975 and was quite controversial at the time.  Check it out before the re-make hits.  I'm not too fond of re-makes, but that's another post.

If you're going to race with the devil, you've got to be as fast as Hell!

Welcome to "Insomnia Theater".

This section is dedicated to my sleepless nights ... flipping the channels again and again and again until something finally strikes my fancy. 

Last week I happened upon a film I have not seen in decades.  It was 1975 and Race with the Devil  creeped me out.  It was interesting watching it again although I found it somewhat amusing that the Satanic cult were automatically assumed to be witches. 

Still creepy after all these years.

 

They Won't Stay Dead

I went through a zombie phase in the early 90s and had to watch every zombie flick I could lay my hands on.  I discovered there were a lot of zombie movies .... a lot of really bad zombie movies!

I remember seeing George A. Romero's Night of the Living Dead  when I was a kid.  I knew then that I was hooked.  My Saturday afternoons as a child consisted of Creature Double Feature with an occasional game of Freeze Tag or TV Tag.

Bill Hinzman's portrayal of the zombie in the cemetery frightened the !%##!!% out of me.  Now.... thanks to Amok Time I have my very own 12" Cemetery Zombie Action Figure!  He comes with 4 different heads and 2 sets of hands (colorized and black & white).  This is the first in this collection and I'm really looking forward to the rest.

Barbra and Ben are both due in November and Karen Cooper has a December release.

Amok Time is doing some awesome stuff!!  Blacula is coming in 2009!!!

Greetings and Salutations....

I have been pondering the idea of starting a blog for quite some time and finally decided to jump in.  It must be the time of year that prompted me to start this.  I have always loved autumn and halloween.  The changing of the leaves, the crisp cool weather, the smells in the air, the cheap plastic halloween costumes that I faithfully wore year after year.  (Would Batman really wear an outfit with his own picture and name on it?)  My very first "home made" costume was worn in Junior High and lovingly stitched together by my aunt.  I think I was the only Dracula with a cape that had some harlequin clown thing going on.  I was just happy to be out of plastic I guess.
I had a 45 record which I loved dearly ... Dinner with Drac.  I think it ended up in a yard sale.  Bummer!

However my nostalgic ways got the better of me and I tracked down the 1995 release of Dead Man's Ball by Zacherley If you have not listened to this gem by the horror host extraordinaire .... please stop what you're doing and find a copy!  You won't be sorry.
